Who is Nanna Marce?

Hi, I'm Thess. Wife to Rani, mum to Jobelle, Ryan and Josh, and grandma to four beautiful kids. Our family runs on love and food. Nanna Marce is where those two things meet.

I grew up watching my mother, Marcelina (Mama Marce, pronounced like the planet Mars), cook hawker-style street food in front of our home in Olongapo City, Philippines. From that little stall, she raised me and my sister, and taught us that feeding people is one of the most loving things you can do.

She passed when I was ten. But the love she put into every dish never left me.

That love followed us to Shepparton. I was always the one turning up to potluck dinners with way too much food, always cooking for whichever friends of the kids happened to be around that day. Our house had an open door and our kitchen never really closed. People would ask for recipes, ask us to cater things, tell us we should be selling this food. For a long time we just smiled and said thank you.

Then one day the kids stopped joking and started planning. Rani found an old donut van in Bendigo, restored it from scratch, and painted it green. We named her Nanna Marce, after the woman who showed me that a meal made with love can change someone's whole day.

Every time we open that serving hatch, I hope we're making her proud.

Every dish on our menu started the same way, around a kitchen table, cooked for people we love. We've taken the Filipino flavours we grew up with and given them a little street food spin.

We pack with the planet in mind.

We use Biopak biodegradable packaging made from rapidly renewable materials, recyclable or compostable. Our drinks are served in BioCups, and our soda bottles go to a friend who recycles them, sending the proceeds to kids in Cebu for school supplies, shoes and backpacks. It's a small loop. It matters.

Kindness is our most passed-down recipe.

Our grandfather used to invite anyone to Christmas, no matter who they were. Our mum does the same. We were raised to never look away from someone who needs something. That spirit is in every dish we serve.

We get around.
